Team Uganda: Clinic Day 3
Hi, I’m Avery Metcalf and I am proud to say that I am twelve years old and I’m the youngest team member with the current OneWorld Health team in Uganda.
Months before the big trip my parents and relatives had been talking about how this trip would change my life in eye opening ways—that seeing poverty would give me a new perspective and compassion. I agreed with them and simply thought it would be ‘cool’. I never would have guessed the impact that seeing all of God’s children with desperate needs for care would have on me.
Everything my parents said and even more has been true. Getting to love on the people in Uganda has showed me that my personal ‘needs’ I have in America, for example, not being to find a pair of socks to not being able to plug my curling iron in are NOTHING compared to the needs in this place. I have learned good life lessons in business while still being able to hold every baby possible and encourage the woman scared to have a tooth extracted by my dad (the dentist on this team) or even playing mafia in a van full of Americans and Ugandans. I have built both relationships with the people here and with the Lord all in a really fun trip. This trip has truly changed my life and the lives of others because of OneWorld Health.
